Tips To Keep Your Spiritual Closet Clean
How many times have you said to yourself, “I need to clean out my closet?” You clean, throw things away and get it all organized. When it’s all done, you sit back and say to yourself, I am so glad I got this done. Going forward I am going to keep this clean.
Three months go by and that closet is right back in the same situation it was before. As a matter of fact, it probably got even messier. Now you don’t feel like cleaning it. Things start to pile up and get cluttered. You can’t find your favorite black dress or those new heels you just brought. They are buried somewhere in the closet underneath the piles of clothes and junk that you have allowed to accumulate. The same can happen in our spiritual lives if we allow it to happen.

We are fine for a while, then we give in to the lusts of the flesh. When we allow the flesh to take over, it places us in a dilemma. We stop praying as much as we use to. We stop reading the word as much as we use to. Then our spiritual closets become dirty, junky, and a mess.
Here are some things we can do to keep our spiritual closets clean:
First– stay in continuous prayer. Don’t wait until heartbreak, crisis, stress, and frustration come. Stay in prayer daily so you are prayed up. The Bible says, Ephesians 6:11″ Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Second- Cleanse your heart. The Bible encourages us to draw close to God and allow our hearts to be cleansed. We can’t clean ourselves and expect to remain clean. Only God can do the cleansing for us. That’s why it’s important to communicate with him and allow him to guide us. You can call your friends, family, and whomever else, but only God can cleanse.
Third- Clean often so things don’t pile up and get cluttered. We all have a few things hiding in our spiritual closets. Things we don’t want everyone to see. Maybe it’s bitterness…well, time to start cleaning. Maybe it’s backbiting and gossiping….time to start cleaning. Maybe it’s envy and jealousy…time to start cleaning.
When you do a consistent check of your spiritual closet, it’s hard for things to get piled up. Because you are staying on top of the cleanliness and getting ahead of it.
It’s not easy to take a look at ourselves and ask, “God what is in me that is not like you?” “What is in my spiritual closet that is causing all this clutter?” Yes, it’s so easy to check other people but sometimes, well oftentimes, we need to check ourselves!
When you keep your closet clean, your soul can shine brighter. You will feel lighter on the inside and out.
