The world is set up for us to run ourselves ragged. Take the kids to school, early meetings at work, church functions, social activities, whatever you have on your plate. We are taught to constantly be on the go. Don’t look back keep going. Then the next day do it all over again. Society is designed to keep us so busy that there is little time for self-care and peace of mind. Burnout culture is real.
Peace is important to our mental sanity. Sometimes it truly takes some strength and determination to tune out the outside world and focus on getting some inner peace. From our daily responsibilities to social media, our cell phones, and all the other distractions, it’s easy to go from day to day without having a moment to experience some me time.
I believe in self-care. If you don’t take the time to take care of yourself, then who will? It’s important sometimes to take a pause. There are times when you have to get off Twitter and Instagram. Sometimes you have to turn off the Real Housewives. You may have to tell your best friend that you will call her back. You may have to put your laptop away and stop answering work emails so late. It doesn’t make you lazy or unmotivated. It makes you a human being who understands some me time is okay without having to feel guilty about it.
Add to your list of to-do’s, some private me time. Try to find at least ten minutes each day to focus on your thoughts, sanity, and well-being. Whether it’s reading a few pages in a book, sitting on your couch with your eyes closed, or taking a nice bubble bath, find that time to center yourself. You can have daily peaceful me time in the midst of a hectic world.
