God does not ask for us to have football-field-sized faith. All we need is faith the size of a mustard seed. Matthew 17:20 says ” And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds there is, but can bloom into something great. A little bit of faith can do a whole lot.
Faith is not always easy. A lot of times it’s hard because it requires us to walk by faith and not by sight. To the human mind that makes no sense at all, but to the spiritual mind, it makes all the sense in the world. Your mind is telling you to question things, but your faith is saying to trust. It’s natural to be afraid of what you see, but the spirit is telling us to turn up that thing called faith and turn down the fear. Let’s use the disciples as an example. In Matthew 8:24-26, “And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
The disciples were afraid. They were looking at Jesus like “Um…do you not see this storm coming? We are about to die…do you see this?” They were panicking the same as most people would have. Jesus calmed the storm and looked at them saying “O ye of little faith!” It was that simple for him. Like a walk in the park!
The storms in our lives can be scary, but we must remind ourselves that we know someone who calms the seas. The more we learn to trust in God, the more we witness him doing great things in our lives. We become living testimonies of what God can do when we keep the faith! He can make our enemies our footstools, and open doors that no man can close. He can turn situations around and grow that mustard seed faith into victory. One day you will have a testimony to tell the world how God brought you out of a trial and tribulation that you didn’t see a way out of.
