Ways To Stay Focused On The Goal Ahead
You have a project, goal, or something you need to accomplish. At first, you’re ready to take on the world and get it done. Then weeks or months later you feel drained and ready to give up. We all have been there before and it can be tough to get back on track when the motivation is simply no longer there. Here are some tips to help overcome the moments of wanting to throw in the towel and get focused.
(1) Procrastinate less- Procrastination is simply delaying. If you keep putting it off you may never get to it. Have you ever said I will get to this next week? Then months go by sometimes it’s even years. Procrastination will keep you behind and make excuses for what could have already been done. “Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday,” Don Marquis
(2) Tune out the negative noise- There are times when people will not be encouraging and supportive on your journey to accomplish your dream or goals. Try to not allow negativity to be a distraction. Don’t let the words of those with pessimistic and doubtful attitudes hinder you. Sometimes when people feel stuck and unmotivated in their own lives, the last thing they want is to see you flourish. You have to tune out that noise and keep your eyes focused on the goal ahead.
(3) Give yourself forgiveness- If you don’t have a goal completed within your set time frame it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up about it and feel like you have failed. Find a way to regroup and get back on track. Pivot and move accordingly.
(4) Celebrate the success- You did it! You put in the hard work and sacrifice to reach that goal. Being encouraging to yourself can increase motivation. Enjoy your favorite dinner, a special treat, or a weekend trip. Don’t be afraid to celebrate and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
