Ways To Practice Self-Care
We live in a society, an extremely Capitalist one at that, where self-care is not priortiized. We are taught to run oursvelves into the ground. We are taught that burn out is normal and to keep going and going . This leaves little time to take care of our wellbeing causing so much unhealthy stress and unhappiness. If you are ready to let go of that mindset and embrace that taking care of yourself is necessary, here are a few tips on ways to practice self-care.
Make the time to check on yourself – Whether it is thirty minutes or an hour, self care needs to be intentional and prioritized. No one is going to make sure you take care of you…like you! Do your best to carve out some time in the day that allows you to relax, read a book, pray or just take a pause.
Don’t feel guilty- Listen….you may not get a chance to call your best friend back before you get started on dinner. You may not get that extra load of laundry done before bed, and that is okay. Some things can wait and there is no need to feel guilty because you didn’t check off everything on your list. God gives you Grace, so give yourself some too!
Do more of what you love– Whether it’s weekly, monthly, or every few months, incorporate more of the things you enjoy. Maybe it’s painting, making jewelry, going to a live show, or booking a massage, life is too short not to fill it with doing things that put a smile on your face and bring you joy.
Be honest with yourself – Take inventory of the things that are preventing you from being your best. Are you in a toxic work environment? Are you in a relationship that is unhealthy? Do you need to seek professional help to get over childhood issues? Have a conversation with yourself about what may need to change to help get you in a better space and the steps to take.
Hopefully, some of these tips will help put you on the right path to making self-care a priority!
