You have a goal that you want to accomplish. At first, you are motivated, ready to take on the world, and get it done. Then weeks or months later you feel drained, unmotivated and ready to give up. You are ready to pull the covers over your head, throw on your bonnet and call it a day! We all have been there before and it can be tough to get back on track when the motivation is non-existent. Achieving your goals is not always easy. This thing called life can get in the way and sometimes what you set out to accomplish in one year ends up taking two or three instead. It’s easy to get off track and find yourself needing some motivation to keep pushing.
Write your goals down- Keep track of them in a goal journal. Write down the steps necessary to achieve the goal and keep track of the progress. It’s one thing to have goals in your head, but putting them on paper makes them visible. It brings them to life. You can see them, read them, and speak some life into them.
Practice Time Management- Be realistic about the time frames. Some things are going to take longer than others. Tackling one thing at time can help you be more clearer and set realistic expectations. Think about what should come first and prioritize accordingly and carve out some that allows you to focus.
Check your circle- When you were a child, you may have heard an adult say to you “Watch the company you keep.” These words are indeed very true. Think about who you are spending a lot of time with. Have you been spending time around people that are unmotivated or always have something negative to say? The problem is people like this will not push you to be greater. They are just fine not elevating and progressing, so why would they want to see you flourish? You want people around that desire to see you succeed and be your best self. People that you can learn from and encourage you to grow.
Procrastinate less- Procrastination is simply delaying. If you keep putting it off you may never get to it. Have you ever said I will get to this next week? Then months go by sometimes it’s even years. Procrastination will keep you behind and make excuses for what could have already been done. “Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday,” Don Marquis
Give yourself forgiveness- If you don’t have a goal completed within your set time frame it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up about it and feel like you have failed. Find a way to regroup and get back on track. Pivot and move accordingly.
Celebrate the success- You did it! You put in the hard work and sacrifice to reach that goal. Being encouraging to yourself can increase motivation. Enjoy your favorite dinner, a special treat, or a weekend trip. Don’t be afraid to celebrate and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
Finally, Keep HIM first- God will lead and guide you to the plans he has for your life. Meditate, read his word, pray. He will truly direct your path. Seek him first in all you do for we are nothing without him.
