Is there someone in your life that you have given up on? Someone you have prayed for over and over and still see no change? Maybe it’s a loved one who keeps engaging in destructive behavior, or a friend who is battling an addiction. Whatever the situation, you have grown tired because you feel there is no hope for this person or for their situation to change. Despite your steadfast prayers and the many times you have tried to help, it feels like nothing will ever change and there is no more hope.
It can be frustrating and disappointing to invest so much energy and care into helping someone only to watch them remain stuck in their difficult circumstances. Even though you may feel a sense of wanting to throw in the towel, remember that God is almighty and has the power to transform anything or anyone. Even in circumstances where it may feel like the adversary is gaining ground. As Romans 3:22 reminds us, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.” He sees the potential in that person, even when you cannot, and his timing is perfect. Trust in the possibility of change because miracles can happen when you least expect them.
Sometimes, we have just have to let go and let God. There are also times when we may have to love from a distance in order to protect our own mental health and peace. It allows us to release being burdened down by trying so hard to fix their issues, but still hold on to hope praying for God’s divine intervention.
Ultimately, embracing this balance between love and self-care is essential for our well-being, reminding us that while we can extend compassion and support, we must also nurture our own souls.
So hold on to your faith, remain steadfast, keep praying and believing. God can turn that lost loved one back to him, just as he did in the story of the Prodigal Son found in the book of Luke 15:11-32, where the father welcomed his son that went astray back home with open arms, symbolizing forgiveness, redemption, and the everlasting love of God for those who return to Him.
