When God Seems Quiet: How To Hold On When Heaven Feels Silent

For many of us, faith isn’t just a belief, it’s survival. It’s how we breathe through long workdays, carry our families, and keep showing up even when life feels heavy. But what happens when you’re praying, fasting, journaling, and doing all the things… and all you hear is nothing but crickets? This is a season many of us walk through but rarely talk about. There’s often pressure to walk around saying, “I’m too blessed to be stressed,” or “I’m blessed and highly favored.” Yes, that sounds good. But sometimes life doesn’t feel that way.

There are moments when you think, “I’m stressed and tired of this mess,” or, “I don’t feel highly favored. I feel forgotten and abandoned.” If you’ve ever felt like heaven put you on hold, you’re not alone. And you’re not faithless. You’re a human being who is tired, frustrated, and trying to make sense of a quiet season. Today, we’re naming it, normalizing it, and finding strength inside it.

1. Silence Doesn’t Mean Abandonment

One of the biggest lies the enemy whispers is, “If God loved you, you wouldn’t be going through this.” But the truth is, some of the most powerful women in Scripture experienced divine silence, Hannah, Naomi, Hagar, and even Mary the mother of Jesus. God’s silence is not God’s absence. Sometimes He’s working behind the scenes in ways you can’t see yet.

2. You’re Not Being Punished You are Being Prepared

When God is quiet, it’s easy to assume you did something wrong. But often, silence is preparation. God may be preparing your character, your environment, the people connected to your blessing, or your heart to receive what you prayed for. Sometimes God quiets the noise so you can hear yourself again.

3. Your Strength Is Not in Question

Sis, hear this with love: you don’t have to be the strong one every day. God’s silence is not a test of your strength it’s an invitation to rest in His. Black women are often taught to “push through,” “keep going,” and “don’t let them see you sweat.” But spiritual maturity also looks like sitting still, crying when you need to, asking for help, and letting God carry you. Strength is not performance. Strength is surrender.

4. Look for God in the Small Places

When heaven feels quiet, God often speaks through small, unexpected moments. It could be a scripture that hits different, a song that finds you at the right time, a friend who checks on you, a sermon clip that pops up on your feed, or a moment of peace you can’t explain. God’s voice isn’t always thunder. Sometimes it’s a whisper.

5. You’re Allowed to Be Honest With God

Black women are taught to pray pretty, but God can handle your real. You can say, “Lord, I’m tired,” “I don’t understand,” “I feel forgotten,” or “I need You to show up.” Honesty is not disrespect. It’s real and authentic. David cried out. Job questioned. Jesus wept. So you are not alone and in good company.

6. This Season Will Not Break You

Silence is a season, not a sentence and seasons shift. You will not stay here forever. God is still writing your story, even in the chapters that feel blank.

Final Word: Your Crown Is Still Secure

Even in the quiet, you are still chosen. Still covered. Still called. Still crowned. Living in Queendom means trusting that God is working even when you can’t hear Him. It means believing that your story is still unfolding in ways that will bless you and everyone connected to you. Hold on, sis. Heaven may be quiet, but God is not done.

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
