How To Love Yourself When You’re Not Loving Who You Are At The moment
There are times in life when self-love can feel impossible because of how you are feeling about yourself. The decisions you made. The ones you didn’t. The chances you ignored, the red flags you made excuses for, and the moments you ignored your own intuition. You’re not just tired, you’re mad. At yourself!
The version of you that feels like you have settled, procrastinated, or not where you want to be in life, has you feeling down. Now, you’re sitting in the aftermath, beating yourself up and wondering why loving yourself feels like something you don’t deserve.
Moments like this, self-love can be an uphill battle. But remind yourself, you are still worthy of love, especially from yourself. And when your own love feels hard to access and far away, God’s love is never out of reach.
So how do you love yourself when you’re not loving who you are at the moment? You start small. You start with truth. You look up! Because even when self-love feels unreachable, God’s love for you is not.
Queen, it’s time to stand up and give yourself a much needed hug. Stand in front of the mirror and look yourself in the eyes. Say these below affirmations out loud, and reflect on the scriptures to remind you that you are loved.
- “I am allowed to feel what I feel, and still be worthy of love.”
- “I am not my mistakes, my delays, or my doubts.”
- “I am being prepared for something greater, even when I feel stuck.”
- “I am loved by God, even when I struggle to love myself.”
- “I am showing up for me today and everyday going forward.”
When your energy is low and your spirit feels heavy, let these verses be your reminder: God’s love is not seasonal. It’s eternal. Can I get an Amen?
Romans 8:38–39 reminds us of this beautifully.
NKJV: “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life… nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
When your heart feels broken, Psalm 34:18 offers comfort. NLT: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
If fear or discouragement is weighing you down, Isaiah 41:10 speaks directly to that.
NKJV: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
On the days when you feel like you’ve run out of grace, Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds you that mercy is renewed every morning.
NLT: “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”
And when you feel unlovable, 1 John 4:19 brings you right back to the source. NKJV says, “We love Him because He first loved us.” So even on the days when you don’t feel like your best self, remember this: your identity is rooted in Christ, not in your emotions. His love is the foundation steady, unchanging, and always reaching for you.
