Fall Reading List: 5 Books to Pour Into You

As we “head into fall,” let’s be honest, fall does not fall everywhere. Some of us live in places where autumn is basically summer with a new attitude. The leaves don’t change, the breeze refuses to breeze, and the only thing dropping is your patience every time you step outside and the heat is still acting up. But for the Queens who grew up or live in those cold‑weather states? Oh, fall shows OUT. The leaves start acting brand new, the air gets that little bite to it, and suddenly it’s time to pull out the boots, the sweaters, and the cute jackets. Fall becomes a whole mood.

And what better way to slide into whatever version of fall you’re getting, than with a warm cup of tea, hot chocolate, or whatever your comfort drink is… and a good book? You know how we do around here. We celebrate our culture, our stories, our voices. Earlier this year, we dropped a Black History Month reading list, and now we’re back with a fall edition so you can keep building your collection.

Because listen… we need to get back to real reading and not scrolling, skimming, and “saving it for later,” knowing full well we’re not going back. Life is busy and attention spans are short these days, but nothing beats slowing down, getting comfortable, and relaxing with a good book. Here are a few that might actually help you do just that.

If getting your money together is on your fall to-do list, start here, Queen. Tiffany Aliche makes topics like budgeting, saving, credit, investing, and building wealth feel much less intimidating. It’s practical, relatable, and gives you plenty to think about when it comes to your relationship with money. Think of it as sitting down with that financially wise friend who says, “Sis, let’s get these coins together.”

Sometimes life gets heavy, and you just need a little wisdom for your spirit. In The Light We Carry, Michelle Obama shares personal stories and lessons about navigating change, uncertainty, relationships, self-doubt, and the unexpected seasons life can bring. It’s the kind of book you can pick up when you need a reminder that you don’t have to have everything figured out to keep moving forward.

If you love a story with heart, history, and a little mystery all mixed up, this is one to add to your list. The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store is a story that reminds you how powerful community can be, how healing shows up in unexpected places, and how folks with very little can still give you everything. This story is about community, compassion, and friendship. The novel won the Kirkus Prize for Fiction and became a New York Times bestseller.

Calling all the fashion girls, this read is for you. Even if fashion isn’t really your thing, Dapper Dan’s story is one worth knowing. In this memoir, he takes you from growing up in Harlem to becoming one of the most influential names in style and culture. His journey is full of creativity, determination, setbacks, and a whole lot of hustle. It’s that reminder we all need sometimes: you can create your own lane, build your own table, and keep believing in your vision even when the world hasn’t caught up yet. If you love stories about creativity, entrepreneurship, and making something out of what you’ve got, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

In this book, Pastor Dr. Tony Evans breaks down what it really means to build a marriage with God at the center. It’s full of wisdom about partnership, purpose, and spiritual alignment. Whether you’re married or dating with intention, this read is a powerful reminder that love works best when God leads the vision. Amen to that!

When it’s time to get curled up under a blanket in real fall weather or sitting in your air‑conditioned living room pretending it’s fall because the calendar says so, these books are the perfect way to unwind. Add them to your collection, share them with a friend, or start a little reading moment just for you. We deserve stories that feed us financially, spiritually, emotionally, and culturally. So go ahead, and fall into fall with a good book in your hand.
